Nigeria’s 23-man squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup have been assigned jersey numbers by the technical crew.
The numbers followed the jerseys the players have worn in recent appearances for the national team.
Skipper Mikel Obi continued with his no 10 jersey, worn by the legendary Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha for the Eagles and Henry Nwosu before him, while Odion Ighalo maintains the no 9 shirt worn by the iconic Rashidi Yekini when the Super Eagles made their World Cup debut in 1994.
Interestingly, the No. 4 jersey – made famous by the likes of Stephen Keshi and Nwankwo Kanu – was taken from Kenneth Omeruo and assigned to the recuperating Wilfred Ndidi.
Ikechukwu Ezenwa gets the no.1 short even if he’s not the first choice goalkeeper, with Francis Uzoho maintaining his no 23.
Newly capped Crotone forward, Simeon Nwankwo, picked no.13, Kelechi Iheanacho will continue in his no.14, while Alex Iwobi maintains the no 18 shirt.
The Eagles will be donning their new numbers when they take on Czech in a pre-World Cup friendly in Austria on Wednesday
