President Muhammadu Buhari is set to host members of Nigeria’s senior national team to the Russia 2018 World Cup, their coaches and officials to a dinner on Wednesday, inside the presidential villa in Abuja.
The president is reportedly is pleased with the Eagles performance even though the players failed to go beyond the first round of the Mundial let alone return with the trophy as they promised before the country last month.
Head Coach Gernot Rohr was spotted in Lagos on Sunday, dispelling rumours that Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) don’t have any plans to disband the Eagles squad nor are they considering any change of guard in the backroom staff and its technical crew following the World Cup disappointment.
Interestingly, ground works have commenced for the Eagles to ensure that the team excels during the Cameroon 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches.
But the plans for the Eagles have been thrown into doubt following renewed leadership tussle at the NFF after Sports Minister Solomon Dalung ‘sacked’ the Amaju Pinnick-led board and reinstated the Chris Giwa faction.
Pinnick unsurprisingly rejected the order in a response later Monday, saying it was null and void.
It remains to be seen how the situation at the Glass House pans out and its effect on the Eagles going forward.
