World Cup: Belgium into Semis after Stunning Brazil

Belgium are into the World Cup semifinal after recording a shock 2-1 victory over tournament favourites Brazil in Kazan Friday night.

In continuation of extraordinary scenes at the 2018 World Cup, the Red Devils pulled off their biggest win to set up a semi-final showdown against fellow Europeans France.

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez a surprise by deploying Kevin de Bruyne in a false 9 role, and it paid off as the Brazil backline kept chasing shadows for much of the night.

Fernandinho diverted Eden Hazard’s corner into his own net in the 13th minute to set Belgium up for a famous victory, before De Bruyne’s blistering strike on the half-hour mark made it 2-0.

The Belgians were content to sit deep and hit Brazil on the breaks in the second-half, and they almost paid the price when substitute Renato Augusto pulled one back for Brazil with 15 minutes left.

Thibaut Courtois pulled off a sensational fingertip save in stoppage time to deny Neymar’s dipping shot as Belgium held on for the famous victory.
