Title favourites Roger Federer and Serena Williams will be expected to maintain their flawless progress at Wimbledon as they head into the fourth round today.
Federer, aiming for his ninth title and Serena, on track for her eighth, have so far survived the tournament’s giant-killing carnage that’s seen the applecart upset like never before.
In an unnerving curse of the seeds, nine of the top 10 women seeds crashed out before the Wimbledon last 16 for the first time in the Open area, while the men’s draw has seen third seed Marin Cilic, fourth seed Alexander Zverev and sixth seed Grigor Dimitrov all dumped.
Swiss maestro Federer has been in imperious mood in pursuit of his record extending 21st major, while Williams is rounding into form at just the right time for her record-equalling 24th grand slam triumph.
Federer takes on Frenchman Adrian Mannarino for a place in the last eight while Williams is up against Russia’s Evgeniya Rodina.
