Vic Mensa stands by his words.
In case you missed it: the rapper dragged XXXTentacion for filth at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, outing him as a glorified abuser. And this, interestingly, happened while the X’s, Cleopatra Bernard, was seated in the crowd.
The video stirred heated reactions with many people calling out Mensa for disrespecting the late rapper’s mother. They thought it was a sad thing for the grieving mum to have to watch her son get bashed.
However, Vic stands by his criticisms of X, who was accused of domestic and sexual abuse prior to his death. He acknowledges that he never intended to offend Cleopatra Bernard who attended the ceremony to accept X’s award for Best New Artist; he ever knew that she would be there.
According to him, his video was recorded prior to the award show.
“I vehemently reject the trend in hip-hop of championing abusers, and I will not hold my tongue about it,” said Vic in his Instagram post. “I don’t give a fuck about getting attention. I care about bringing awareness, and holding people accountable for their actions.”
And there you have it, folks.
