The Game’s legal woes continue to pile up.
According to the court documents obtained by The Blast,Viacom, the American television and film company which hosted the rapper’s VH1 dating series, “She’s Got Game”, wants him to pay for the legal fees they had spent during their case with him, which reportedly stands at $35,729.50.
In case you missed how the legal drama started: The Game was sued by his show’s contestant Priscilla Rainey who accused him of sexually assaulting her. He lost the case to her and a judge ruled that he must pay her $7.1 million in damages.
Seeing how much he is about to cough out, The Game decided to sue the show host, Viacom, for alleged negligence, negligent misrepresentation and negligent infliction of emotional distress, saying that they allowed Rainey on the show not minding her documented “long and violent criminal history, including multiple felony arrests for aggravated battery.”
Well, the federal court judge Dolly M. Gee sided with Viacom in the suit, saying that Viacom was only exercising its right to free speech in casting Rainey. “Viacom is correct. Courts have held that the ‘creation of a television show,’ including the ‘writing, casting, and broadcasting’ of a television show, is an exercise of free speech,” the ruling reads.
The judge also found that the rapper failed to show a likelihood of success on the merits of his claims. Plus, Viacom had noted in a statement after the lawsuit that the rapper was attempting to “shift the burden of his damages” from Rainey’s lawsuit.
So, The Game lost the lawsuit, and now Viacom is demanding that he pays their legal fees.
Will he? We can’t wait to see how this pans out.
