President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital to declare open the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference.
The COAS conference was originally scheduled to hold in Edo State, however, it was moved to Borno state, in the wake of the attack on three military bases in Metele by a faction of the Boko Haram terrorists.
Photos of Buhari’s arrival at the Maiduguri International Airport was shared online by Bashir Ahmad, the president’s aide on new media.
The visit comes a day after Buhari cancelled a five-day casual leave to his hometown in Daura following the devastating return of insurgency in the north-east.
The president has come under increased pressure to overhaul the security apparatus in the aftermath of increased Boko Haram attacks in the north-east and the ravages of armed Fulani herdsmen across the Niger-Benue trough.
