Tension in Abuja as Police, Peace Corps Clash

There’s unrest in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as officers of the Nigeria Police clashed with members of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN).

The alleged clash was said to have happened this morning in Abuja as the Peace Corps members were celebrating their 12th anniversary when policemen crashed the party.

Daily Trust reports that this led to a confrontation between both sets of security operatives, spreading panic among residents.

The Peace Corps remains suspended after President Muhammadu Buhari declined to give assent to its approval despite the recommendation of the National Assembly.

The National Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Amb. (Dr.) Dickson Akoh, was later discharged of the 13-count criminal charges preferred against him by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Kpotum Idris.
