Suspected herdsmen have descended on Taraba State again, killing three policemen at Bujum Kasuwa community.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, David Misal, who told reporters on Friday in Jalingo, the state capital that the assailants also killed two vigilante officials during the attack on the community in Lau Local Government Area of the state.
Misal said the slain security operatives ran into an ambush on Thursday while responding to a distress call from residents of the community.
Condoling with the families of the slain officers on behalf of the police authorities in the state, Misal added that the remains of the officers have been moved to the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo.
The police officers were killed two months after suspected herdsmen invaded Lau LGA, destroying properties belonging to residents in the area.
Armed Fulani herdsmen have often targeted communities in the north-east state, leading to frequent breakdown of law and order as locals carry out reprisal attacks on Hausa/Fulani communities.
