A Nigerian coach would probably have died after he was punched by an angry player in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
In extraordinary scenes in the National League game, Shooting Stars coach, Agoye Edith Olumide, was punched in the head by a furious Akwa Starlets’ player after the final whistle.
The match between the two sides had ended 0-0, and for reasons yet to be ascertained, Akwa Starlets’ goalkeeper, Franklin Akwari, attacked Olumide.
The coach was reportedly left unconscious for some minutes before he was revived by a team of paramedics at the venue.
While details of the officiating are yet to be released, some of the players, officials and angry home fans dealt with the referees after the match which ended in a stalemate.
The League Management Company, operators of the Nigerian League, are yet to release a statement on the incident.
