Soldier Killed as Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack in Borno

One soldier was killed as troops of the Nigerian Army repelled a suspected Boko Haram attack on Gudumbali community in northern Borno State on Saturday.

This was disclosed in a statement Sunday by the Deputy Director Public Relations of the Theatre Command, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu.

Col Nwachukwu stated that the soldier died after a gun battle with the terrorists who had disguised as humanitarian workers during the distribution of relief materials.

Another soldier was also said to have sustained injuries and a truck belonging to the unit was damaged.

The spokesman however said the army successfully overpowered the attackers, leaving many of them injured and some dead.

A large amount of ammunition including eight rocket-propelled grenades were also recovered, while the troops remain at red alert for the fleeing insurgents in the area.

The attack comes a day after President Muhammadu Buhari called on sub-regional leaders to intensify efforts to brig an end to the Boko Haram menace.
