Shehu Sani defies Buhari, Brands Herdsmen Terrorists

Senator Shehu Sani on Monday declared the armed Fulani herdsmen and bandits killing in Northern Nigeria and the middle-belt region are terrorist groups.

The vocal senator took the stand after no fewer than 45 persons were killed in a brutal attack in his home state, Kaduna over the weekend.

Blaming a failure of leadership for the incessant killings in the north, Sani, (APC, Kaduna Central) said the culprits are terrorists, and that he would support any move to strengthen the police and other security agencies.

Sani’s take on the contentious issue is contrary to that of his party, the APC, and President Buhari who have called on the local farmers and other village dwellers being terrorized to find a way to accommodate the rampaging groups.

The herdsmen killings have had a particularly devastating effect in Benue State, north central Nigeria, where no fewer than 200 were killed last week in a series of attacks on churches and farmsteads.

Many Nigerians have warned that the country risks implosion if the bloodletting continues unchecked.
