Shannade Clermont faces 20 years in jail.
According to The Blast., the Yeezy model has finally pleaded guilty to fraud after being arrested for going on a shopping spree with a dead man’s credit card information.
Recall that the model was arrested in July on a slew of charges, which include stealing the debit card of a man who had overdosed and using his identity to ring up thousands of dollars in purchases. The Clermont sister reportedly, in 2017, stole the debit card information after the unnamed man died due to an overdose of cocaine and fentanyl. Investigators collected his iPhone, and his text messages were recovered directly linking him to Shannade Clermont.
Speaking with investigators, a doorman said he saw Clermont hours before the man’s body was discovered, using the pseudonym “Audrey.” She reportedly used the money to pay her rent and phone bill, buy plane tickets, and make online purchases “of thousands of dollars of clothing and other merchandise.”
Clermont was indicted on three felony counts, including wire fraud, access device fraud, and aggravated identity theft. She pled guilty only to wire fraud, making a deal to have the other two charges dropped. “This case demonstrates that in reality, those who commit debit card fraud will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” U.S. attorney Geoffrey S. Berman said in court on Thursday.
The 24-year-old model will be sentenced Feb. 13, and could face up to 20 years in a federal prison for wire fraud, plus she will likely be made to pay back restitution of up to $55,000.
