The Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has said that he is considering running against President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Saraki said he can make the change that Nigeria and Nigerians desire.
“I am consulting and actively considering it. I believe I can make the change,” he was quoted by Bloomberg.
Saraki, a former chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) whose primary election holds in October.
The former governor of Kwara state also claimed that the PDP has learnt its lesson from the loss in 2015 and stand a chance of leading Nigeria in the right direction.
“We (PDP) have the opportunity with the right kind of presidential candidate and president to provide the leadership for the party. The party has a good opportunity to lead the country in the right direction.”
Saraki join a number of political heavyweights vying for the PDP presidential ticket including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State among others.
