Reggae Star Buju Banton Has Been Released From Prison

Tampa Bay Times is reporting that Buju Banton has been released from prison.

According to the media house, Banton was convicted in a Tampa courtroom in 2011 on federal drug charges and was freed Friday from Georgia’s private McMcRae Correctional Institute.

The 45-year-old Jamaican native was reportedly seen boarding a plane on Friday, and this comes seven years he got incacerated.

His legal troubles started on a 2009 flight from Spain to the United States, Tampa Bay Times reports, adding that “Banton was seated next to an informant who federal agents had paid $3.3 million over 14 years. The prosecution said Banton boasted of his role in a large cocaine smuggling ring, and talked to the informant about setting up a deal.”

After a long legal battle, he was sentenced to 10 years in 2011, but has now been released.

Fans are hoping he will return to making music again.
