Tampa Bay Times is reporting that Buju Banton has been released from prison.
According to the media house, Banton was convicted in a Tampa courtroom in 2011 on federal drug charges and was freed Friday from Georgia’s private McMcRae Correctional Institute.
The 45-year-old Jamaican native was reportedly seen boarding a plane on Friday, and this comes seven years he got incacerated.
His legal troubles started on a 2009 flight from Spain to the United States, Tampa Bay Times reports, adding that “Banton was seated next to an informant who federal agents had paid $3.3 million over 14 years. The prosecution said Banton boasted of his role in a large cocaine smuggling
After a long legal battle, he was sentenced to 10 years in 2011, but has now been released.
Fans are hoping he will return to making music again.
