Real Madrid win Third Straight Champions League

Real Madrid have won the Champions League for a record third straight season after beating Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev Saturday night.

Substitute Gareth Bale put in a man-of-the-match performance with two goals, but it’s Liverpool goalkeeper Lorius Karius who will be remembered for all the wrong reasons after making two costly mistakes on the night.

After a promising start to the showpiece match, Liverpool were soon on the back foot following an injury to top scorer Mo Salah, after Sergio Ramos wrestled him to the floor.

Madrid soon had a goal disallowed when Ronaldo rose highest to meet Isco’s wonderfully floated ball, allowing Karim Benzema to tap-in the rebound only for the linesman to flag it offside.

The holders however shot ahead six minutes after the restart when Karius’ ball out of goal inexplicably found Benzema’s raised foot and ricocheted into an empty net.

The Reds drew level four minutes later, the impressive Sadio Mane on hand to steer in Dejan Lovren’s knockdown from a James Milner corner-kick.

Real coach Zinedine Zidane threw on Bale for isco and the Welshman responded by firing his side ahead in the 64th minute with a spectacular overhead kick from Marcelo’s cross.

And Karius’ night got worse when Bale’s dipping shot from 40 yards squeezed between his gloves to all but kill off Jurgen Klopp’s men and seal Real’s third straight European Cup and 13th overall.
