Nicki Minaj has been on a marathon rant-fest recently, and she has at least one celebrity ally on her side: rapper Young M.A.
The Ooouuu rapper recently stopped by Real 92.3 LA where she sat down with Bootleg Kev & DJ Hed and talked about, among other things, the state of female rap game today.
Only last year, Remy Ma brought some of her female rap colleagues to perform with her at Hot 97 Summer Jam, but all of that “female unity” disintergrated after Cardi B’s meteoric rise to the spotlight; the Bodak Yellow rapper was pitted against Nicki Minaj, and ever since there has been an active campaign against the Chun-Li rapper on social media.
Speaking about this during her sit-down with the crew of Hot 97, Young M.A. blamed the media for cooking up the plot where fans are expected to choose one female rapper at a time. “I don’t understand that shit,” she said. “They painted that shit, it was probably never a problem.”
She continued in her defence of Nicki, expressing her frustration towards the hate Nicki has recently received from all angles. “That’s the homie right there,” said M.A.“She’s dope. I just hate that she gets so much hate now. Like, I just think that shit is corny. People on your dick one minute then, on some other shit the next as if she did something wrong. I don’t think she did anything wrong. She’s made a lot of impact in the game.”
And Nicki Minaj is speaking her mind too. She took to her Twitter last night to call out everyone from Kylie Jenner to Spotify after she lost the battle for No. 1 to Travis Scott.
Meanwhile, check out M.A. comments from the 20:30 mark.
