The FCT police command has arrested, dismissed and arraigned the trigger-happy policeman who allegedly killed a female corps member in Abuja on the eve of her passing out Wednesday.
Briefing journalist on the matter Friday, FCT Commissioner of police, Sadiq Bello said all necessary disciplinary procedures had been concluded.
“He (the suspect) has been dismissed from the force and arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction and he is currently on remand awaiting trail,” he said.
In a rather bizarre turn in the early hours of Wednesday, Angela Linda Igwetu was allegedly shot around Ceddi Plaza by a police officer and was later confirmed dead at the Garki Hospital.
She met her demise while returning from a party to celebrate a successful completion of her one-year compulsory service to fatherland.
After a petition written to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) by a law firm representing the sister of the deceased, the policeman who allegedly shot Angela was identified as Benjamin Peters.
Such was the furore that Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki waded in on the matter, saying his office would do all within its power to ensure that justice was served in the case.
