With the win assured, Joshua Obaje added a third in stoppage-time to give the Peace Boys a healthy advantage ahead of the second leg in Cameroon.
Last season’s runners-up MFM took the lead in the Malian capital Bamako, through Nojeem Akinyemi after receiving a pass from Stanley Okorom in the 15th minute.
But MFM’s lead Lagos club’s lead lasted only two minutes before Miakib Giscard equalised for the hosts through a beautiful header.
The Malians searched for a winner but the MFM defence contained their threats to leave with a slight advantage ahead of the return-leg at the Agege Stadium.
