President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Governor-elect of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, for winning the governorship election.
President Buhari in a statement signed on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, also congratulated the state and national campaign teams for “working assiduously to guarantee the victory at the polls.”
He also commended the outgoing Governor Rauf Aregbesola “for eight years of steadfastness and service to his people.”
“Thank you Osun State for supporting our good governance agenda by re-electing the APC. I assure you that we will continue to work for the progress and prosperity of the state and the nation,” Buhari said.
The president called on the Governor-elect to always remember that the electorate expects an unreserved commitment to delivering results that directly impact their lives and families.
He added that the outcome of the election in Osun State further strengthens the democratic culture in the country and extolled INEC for, once again, “making the country proud.”
President Buhari commends the maturity, loyalty and courage of all contestants in putting in their best to be elected to serve the state, urging them to seek redress in court, where they disagree with the outcome.
Buhari’s congratulatory message comes amid widespread criticism of the poll, particularly Thursday’s rerun that was allegedly marred by vote-buying and intimidation.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also slammed the poll, saying it would seek redress in court as its candidate Ademola Adeleke was robbed of his victory.
