The Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC) on Wednesday presented the certificate of return to the governor-elect, Gboyega Oyetola, of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This comes after Oyetola was declared the winner of the Osun governorship election by Returning Officer, Professor Joseph Fuwape, last week Friday
INEC declared Oyetola the winner of the poll after a hugely controversial supplementary election held in seven polling units in the state.
Oyetola had trailed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ademola Adeleke, by 353 votes going into the runoff election.
But his votes from the supplementary election helped him overturn the deficit and be returned as winner of the keenly contested governorship election.
The final votes announced by the electoral body shows that Oyetola got 255,505 votes, while Adeleke secured 255,023 votes.
Oyetola and the APC may yet leave the champagne on ice as PDP’s Adeleke said he’s confident of reclaiming his ‘stolen mandate’ in court.
