Nigeria’s First Professional Model, Yemi Fawaz, Dies at 64

The Nigerian fashion world has been rocked by the news that the country’s first professional model, Yemi Fawaz, has died at the age of 64.

The news of her death was confirmed by her daughter, Magdalene OluwaTobi Fawaz, on her Facebook page.

She wrote; “It is with great sadness that I am announcing the passing of my Mother Deaconess Yemi Fawaz.

“We thank God for her well-lived life and for her strong faith in the Lord Almighty.

“Her homegoing arrangements will be announced soon. I ask that you keep our family in your prayers and I am grateful that she was able to touch you all in so many ways.”

It is understood that Late Fawaz who pioneered professional modelling in Nigeria died after a long battle with cancer.

Deaconess Fawaz started her modelling career and became a supermodel in the late 70s.

She left Nigeria in 1997 and didn’t return until 2016.

Till her death she was the president/ chief operations at banner of love international outreach.

Fawaz is single and studied Hotel, Restaurant, Culinary & Tourism Management at New York Food And Hotel Management.

She is survived by her 33-year-old daughter, Magdalene.
