Nigerians React as EFCC Storms Doyin Okupe’s Residence

The invasion of the home of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former presidential aide, Dr Doyin Okupe, by EFCC operatives Saturday has triggered a bitter backlash among Nigerians.

Dr Okupe took to Twitter Saturday to announce incident, saying the operatives confronted him with an allegation of cybercrime and asked him to follow them to their office, but they did not have a warrant for his.

He, however, declined to follow them, offering instead to visit their office on Monday after which they left.

It remains unclear what exactly they were accusing him of, despite the general suspicion that it has to do with his activities on social media.

And Nigerians have reacted angrily to the move considered as part of a clampdown on the opposition.
