An alternate juror is currently being investigated for misconduct in the Jelani Maraj case, Page Six is reporting.
According to the media house, the unnamed juror had said, during the trial, that since Nicki Minaj didn’t testify to help her brother, it “that means he is guilty.”
This revelation was made on Friday, before the Nassau County Supreme Court Judge Robert McDonald, who summoned jurors back to his courtroom to begin interviewing them following claims that the alternate juror, whose name has not been released, was biased.
Recall that the rapper’s brother was convicted of repeatedly raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter. His sentencing is still being delayed, and speaking with the jurors, McDonald said in open court that the alternate juror has alleged that his fellow jurors “expressed their belief that Jelani Maraj was guilty early on in the trial.”
Another juror allegedly “stated they can’t wait for him to be found guilty,” the judge said the alternate juror claimed, and another claimed that since Nicki didn’t testify, “that means he is guilty.”
McDonald noted that he had repeatedly warned the jurors not to talk about the case prior as suck talks indicate that they had made up their minds before testimony concluded.
This investigation may force a retrial, which can be harrowing. However, we can’t wait to see how this pans out.
