Daily Post is reporting that the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, Prof. Usman Yusuf, has been suspended
Recall that earlier this year, the NHIS boss was investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for perpetrating fraud to the tune of N919m. After he was removed from seat months ago, Yusuf was controversially reinstated by President Muhammadu Buhari in February. His shocking return prompted unionists at the agency to ground operations, threatening to stay off work until the action was reversed.
Now, he has been suspended again to allow for proper investigations in his alleged conducts within the agency.
And speaking with the press today at the NHIS headquarters, the Chairman of the governing council, Dr. Eyantu Ifenne, said the agency is reviewing the various documents on allegations and that they have constituted an administrative panel which must submit their report on Prof. Usman Yusu in the next three months.
“The ES is suspended indefinitely to pave unfettered space for the committee to do thorough investigations into the matter,” he said, adding, “The council has also resolved that Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Adamu immediately step into the acting capacity of the ES to allow activities to run smoothly.”
