Jose Mourinho has reportedly deleted his Instagram account after being bombarded with abusive messages from Manchester United fans following Saturday’s FA Cup final defeat against Chelsea.
Mourinho’s cautious approach came under fire once again as his side struggled to get out of first gear in the 1-0 defeat at Wembley courtesy of an Eden Hazard first-half penalty.
The defeat meant Mou finished his second season at Old Trafford without lifting a trophy, while seeing their crosstown rivals Manchester City sweep all before them.
Despite the Portuguese’s claim that progress has been made after a second place finish in the Premier League, United fans were quick to turn on him after the game.
His negative tactics has been the subject of negative scrutiny during his two seasons at the club and it seemed as if many United fans are losing patience with the manager who guided the club to League Cup and Europa League Cup success in his first season at the club.
Never one to back out of a fight, Mou has taken swipes at the press over their fondness for criticising his side, saying before the Chelsea game that he didn’t find ‘6-0s’ entertaining.
The setback notwithstanding, United chiefs are believed to be determined to back the manager with another big summer of spending to match the imperious City.
Mou signed a contract extension to keep him at the club until 2021, and he may offload a number of first-team players next season, including Luke Shaw, Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini, Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Anthony Martial.
