Moonchild Sanelly & Damon Albarn: The Highlight of Africa Express 18

2018 belongs to Moonchild Sanelly.

Only one month into the year she has achieved what many artists achieve over a lifetime of pushing to get to the top. To put her recent success into perspective, over the past 12 years Moonchild Sanelly has been molding her craft and building her team. Over the past 3 years, she has been working with SJN Agency and an all-female performance/travel party on the road. Her constant grind is one to be admired, artists of SA take notice!! Success in music is a long-term game. A game that Moonchild Sanelly is on top of! End of 2017 she leads the biggest track of the summer with an unforgettable verse ‘please call future maybe…’ arguably the most memorable verse of the smash hit produced by DJ Maphorisa & DJ Tira featuring fellow female artist Busiswa. 

2018 rolls in with 2 music videos & singles released before Feb 2018 both exclusive to MTV Base Africa. One international hit with Japan-based artist Weird Together released by Sony Music Africa and the second video released for her song FBOYZ directed by Moonchild Sanelly & her manager SJ Nicholson. 

Over the past week, Moonchild Sanelly has been working in studio with the Africa Express project. Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn took an instant interest in working with Moonchild Sanelly & by the end of the week the two had worked a number of tracks together. Two of which they performed live at the Tennis Club event on Friday night. Backstage following the performance, both Moonchild Sanelly & Damon Albarn solidified their connection with matching tattoos.   The week saw her working on 7 songs in total. These included collaborations with The Bombay Bicycle Club frontman Mr Jukes, Nick Zinner the guitarist / producer for the New York rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs &  Remi Kabaka is a Nigerian drummer who has performed with The Rolling Stones, Ginger Baker, Steve Winwood, John Martyn, Hugh Masekela, on Rhythm of the Saints by Paul Simon, Short Cut Draw Blood by Jim Capaldi and on Band on the Run by Paul McCartney.
