A mobile policeman has allegedly killed a driver at check point at Maisamari in Sardauna local area of Taraba state over N10.
Trouble started when the driver of Peugeot 505 station wagon with registration no TR 496 JAL was stopped at the check point and told he must pay N50 before he would be allow to continue with his journey.
The 56-year-old driver, identified as Muhammed Danjuma, was said to have offered N40 instead of N50 demanded by the mobile police, claiming he hadn’t the extra change on him.
Sources told Daily Trust that the driver then brought out N1000 note and give the policeman, saying he did not have N50, but the policeman also rejected the N1000 and started beating the driver.
Subsequently, the driver, who hailed from Nguroje, collapsed and died following serious beating he received from the policeman.
Following the driver’s death, an angry mob killed the policeman on the spot, before they mobilised to burn the police station in the town where they were repelled by a deployment of soldiers.
