Missy Elliott Honours Aaliyah on the 17th Anniversary of Her Death

Missy Elliott took to her social media on Saturday to join fans in celebrating Aaliyah on the 17th anniversary of her death.

Recall that Aaliyah died in a plane crash on August 25, 2001, along with eight other passengers. The singer, who was 22 at the time, was headed to Florida from the Bahamas where she had just finished shooting the music video for “Rock the Boat.”

For many years, fans have continued celebrating the iconic singer, and yesterday, Missy Elliott, who was Aaliyah’s good friend and collaborator wrote her a short, heartfelt message.

“Aaliyah, we miss you so much. But your legacy will live on forever and ever,” said Missy in the video, adding, “Aaliyah (Babygirl) I can only imagine how great you would be today winning oscars & creating sick music & still setting fashion trends! Your mom & brother @RAD_6 & your fans been holding it down 4 u […] you will always be A One in A Million. Sleep peacefully angel Babygirl.”
