Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has rang the changes for the pre-World Cup friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo to be played at the Adoke Amiesamaka Stadium Port Harcourt tonight.
Captain John Obi Mikel and star attacker Odion Ighalo are only good enough for the bench as Rohr looks to give fringe players a run ahead of the announcement of the final 23-man squad next week.
Other star players missing from the starting XI for tonight’s clash are Chelsea’s Victor Moses and Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi.
The German coach has gone with a fairly regular back four of Tyronne Ebuehi, Elderson Echiejile, Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong.
Captain for the night Ogenyi Onazi is joined by Joel Obi and Oghenekaro Etebo in midfield while Kelechi Iheanacho, partners Simeon Nwankwo and Kano Pillars’ Junior Lokosa in a three-man attack.
Rohr has stated that five players would be dropped after the DR Congo friendly before the trip to take on England June 2 after which two more will be released from the initial 30-man squad.
Overshadowed somewhat by fears of the dreaded Ebola virus, Nigeria will be hoping for a measure of revenge after the Leopards of DR Congo won 2-0 the last time both sides met in a friendly in 2015.
Kick-off is 5pm Nigerian time.
