Captain John Obi Mikel has expressed his delight at joining the rest of the Super Eagles squad as preparations intensify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Mikel hit the Eagles’ Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort Camp in Uyo on Thursday, bringing the number of players in camp to 29.
Speaking after arriving, the Tianjin TEDA midfielder said he was happy to play alongside the current Super Eagles squad and also the represent the country at the World Cup.
“I am happy to be here. It is a huge privilege to play with this team and represent Nigeria at the World Cup,” Mikel, 30, was quoted on the Super Eagles verified Twitter handle.
Mikel missed the last two Super Eagles outings in March as a result of work permit issues at his Chinese club but has returned to lead the side for the pre-World Cup preparations.
He last represented Nigeria in the 4-2 friendly win over Argentina in November, a month after helping the three-time African champions secure World Cup qualification.
Gernot Rohr’s men will take on Democratic Republic of Congo in a friendly game in Port Harcourt on Monday before jetting out to London where they face England in a prestige friendly in Wembley on June 2.
