Michael Jackson Estate Sues HBO Over Leaving Neverland Documentary

Pitchfork is reporting that the estate of Michael Jackson has filed a lawsuit against HBO following the channel’s acquisition of the rights to Leaving Neverland.

Recall that the documentary follows the story of two men who claimed that Jackson sexually abused them when they were children.

Yesterday, the official trailer was released. And in their complaint, the estate said that HBO is in breach of previously established contractual provisions that state which apparently read: “HBO shall not make any disparaging remarks concerning Performer [Jackson] or any of his representatives, agents, or business practices or do any act that may harm or disparage or cause to lower in esteem the reputation or public image of Performer.”

And it is, for this reason, they are seeking damages possibly exceeding $100 million.
