Messi, Suarez, lead Barca Rout in La Liga

Barcelona were in devastating form Saturday as forwards Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho all scored in a 6-1 hammering of Girona that took them 10 points clear at the top of La Liga and set a club record of 32 games unbeaten in the league.

There were shocking scenes at the Camp Nou when visiting striker Portu gave Girona a shock lead in the third minute – his 10th league goal of the campaign.

But the lead didn’t last for long as Suarez levelled for the Catalans, sweeping home a sublime pass from the talismanic Messi.
Ernesto Velverde’s men were soon in the ascendancy and two wonder goals from Messi put them out of sight before Suarez grabbed his brace to all but settle the contest with a 4-1 lead at halftime.

Barca’s record signing Coutinho got in on the act with a spectacular long-distance shot from well outside of the area in the 66th minute, before the in-form Suarez completed a hat-trick in the 76th, tapping in a cut-back from Ousmane Dembele.

Barca lead the standings on 65 points, 10 clear of Atletico Madrid who visit Sevilla on Sunday and 14 ahead of champions Real.

Earlier on Saturday Real Madrid’s ‘BBC’ strikeforce roared to life devastatingly as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema all scored in a 4-0 win at home to Alaves, a fifth straight win in all competitions for Zinedine Zidane’s side that sees them go third on the log.
