Police have arrested a man after a yet-to-be identified girl was found dead in a hotel in the Amukpe area of Sapele town, Delta State.
The deceased reportedly lodged in the hotel on Thursday with a male partner, who was believed to be her boyfriend,
However, some of the staff members of the hotel suspected a foul play when they caught the unnamed boyfriend trying to make an escape from the hotel, TheNation writes.
He was followed into the room where he had been with his girlfriend and found the deceased lying still and cold.
The hotel staff raised the alarm, held the suspect and handed him over to the police for investigation.
It was learnt that the girl entered the drinking bar of the hotel with the young man, where they both drank Campari before they entered the hotel room.
The Delta state police command confirmed the death and the arrest, but cautioned against stretching insinuations about what could have gone wrong.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke said, “Yes it’s true. They told me about somebody who died in a hotel room.
“Be careful about that story because we don’t know the reason or what may have killed her. But they said, they are suspecting fumigation. Be careful about what you write about it. We are not really sure about it but it’s true,” he said.
