Lupita Nyong’o will portray the mother of show host Trevor Noah, in his biopic Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood, which will be adapted from his bestselling autobiography of same name.
According to Variety, Noah will be producing the project through his Ark Angel Productions, and he will be working alongside Norman Aladjem, Derek Van Pelt and Sanaz Yamin of Mainstay Entertainment.
Recall that the book, published by Spiegel & Grau in 2016, won the James Thurber Prize for American Humor, and also bagged two NAACP Image Awards. It tells the story of Noah in post-apartheid South Africa, the son of a white father and black mother, and his struggles fitting into a dysfunctional and religious community.
And so, Lupita will play his mother. She also will play Ifemelu in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s bestseller Americanah, and Variety adds that her Black Panther co-star Danai Gurira, is already working on that script.
We can’t wait to see how it all pans out!
