Linda Ikeji Sacks Staff, Theo Ukpaa, Accused of Rape

Linda Ikeji has sacked Theo Ukpaa, the filmmaker accused of raping Emilia Samuel when the latter was 16 years old.

Writing about her experience yesterday, Emilia revealed she met Ukpaa when she joined the competition for SoundCity’s Spice Girl competition. Ukpaa, who was part of the trainers, began making passes at her. She rebuffed him until he violently overpowered in the studio.

She wrote:

“It was on the third training. He said they were making use of the studio we normally use, so we are to use another. There were people working there, so there was nothing to be worried about. We went to the new studio and started the same routine. Then he came and [grabbed] me. I told him to stop, [I’m] not like that. Next thing I knew, he had thrown me to the floor and overpowered me. All I could remember was the pain and the blood; it was everywhere. I kept shouting and shouting and screaming, but no one came. It was years later I realised that the door was soundproof cos is a studio. I never knew till I started working as a presenter. I was just 16 and naive; never had any exposure. That Spice Girl [competition] was the first time I was allowed out of the house. I did not even have a phone by then. All messages and calls were through my mum phone.”

Ukpaa has yet to react to the accusation, but his employer Linda Ikeji has terminated his employment.

Writing on her blog, Ms. Ikeji said:

“I personally wanted to let everyone know that Theo Ukpaa, who was Head of Programmes at Linda Ikeji TV, is no longer a staff of the company. His job with my company was terminated on Monday, August 27th, just a day after I read the heartbreaking story of Emilia Samuel.

The general public is therefore advised not to transact any business with him in the name of Linda Ikeji TV, as anyone who does it, does so at his/her own risk.”
