Leah Sharibu, Dapchi Girl in Boko Haram Captivity, Turns 15 Today

Leah Sharibu, the Christian girl among the Dapchi schoolgirls kidnapped in February, marks her 15th birthday today.

This was disclosed on Sunday by her father, Sharibu Nathan, from their home in Dapchi, Yobe State as the girl remains in the captivity of Islamist terrorists Boko Haram.

Mr Nathan thanked Nigerians of all faith for their prayers for the safe return of their daughter, and called on the Federal Government to expedite her return.

While FG secured the release of the 110 schoolgirls of the Government Girls Technical College, Dapchi Yobe State abducted from their school compound in February 19, Leah Sharibu was held back by the terrorists for refusing to renounce Christianity.

President Muhammadu Buahri had promised her swift release, but over two months on, she remains in captivity.

As she turns 15, Christian groups in Nigeria, United States, United Kingdom and other parts of the world have called for special prayers to ‘celebrate’ her birthday, while many Nigerians have taken to social media to celebrate her and query FG over her continued captivity.

Here are some of the reactions on Twitter…
