Lalong Beats Useni to Win Second Term

Simon Lalong, the incumbent governor of Plateau State, has won his reelection bid after edging Gen Jerry Useni in Saturday’s rerun.

Lalong, who ran under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 595,582 votes in the Plateau state governorship election to defeat Jeremiah Useni, his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, who secured 546,813 votes.

Richard Kirmbi, returning officer for the election, announced the result at the Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) head office in Plateau around 4am on Sunday.

INEC had declared the March 9 election inconclusive, and the supplementary election took place across nine local government areas of the state.
