A group on Wednesday announced that it had paid the N45 million required by President Muhammadu Buhari to buy the presidential form of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), a presidential aide has said.
This came bare 24-hours after the APC released its timetable for the primaries and fees for forms for various political positions by the governing party.
The pro- Buhari group, Nigeria Consolidation Ambassadors Network (NCAN) paid the mandatory N45 million for the expression of interest and the nomination form for the president.
The cheque was received by the chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, in Abuja, and the president’s assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmed, already took to social media to celebrate.
“While president Buhari is far in China, a group of good Nigerians bought expression of interest form and nomination form for him,” Mr Ahmed wrote.
The group that bought the form, led by Sunusi Musa, its national coordinator, said its members across states decided to pull their resources together to do this for the president.
“We have decided to pull our meager resources together and purchase the expression of interest and nomination forms for President Buhari as he presents himself to our party members to be chosen as its candidate the 2019 general election.”
But the sentiment of the group isn’t shared by many Nigerians, who see the action as a charade at a time the nation has more pressing needs.
Here are some of the reactions on Twitter…
APC Selling its presidential nomination form for N45m is one of the tragedies of the party.
Folks crowfunding the nomination form for President Buhari will rank as one of the greatest tragicomedies of Nigeria.

Buhari earns N14m p/a and has earned N42m the past 3 years. Gets estacodes running into 100s of millions and has every expenses taken care of by the state which budgeted N31b for the presidency but Buhari doesn’t have N55m for APC nomination form. Buhari is a smooth liar!

I can't afford N55M for nomination form. – President Muhammadu Buhari.
Uncle, tell Yusuf to sell his bike and stop disturbing our eardrums.

Instead of young people saying they want to help Buhari raise his N55m for the nomination form, demand for nomination forms that don’t cost the wages of over 3000 Nigerian minimum wage earners. It won’t mean you don’t still support Buhari. Let’s think about Nigeria after Buhari!

So, @MBuhari cannot purchase nomination form by himself as a former Head of State, Minister, ES of PTDF and a serving President? Whoever would believe that he cannot afford that is an empty cranium. Buhari and Buharists should stop deceiving Nigerians for the sake of God.

Buhari says he can’t afford the N55m APC presidential nomination form, but Aisha’s accessories at any given time are worth more than N55m. Abi she is a small girl with a big god?
