Kerry Washington has notified anyone who cares to listen in Hollywood that she is interested in taking up voicing roles for black characters.
“Dear animators looking for black voices… I’m avail..,” she wrote on her Twitter yesterday, and it comes mere days after Alison Brie said she regrets voicing Diana Nguyen, a Vietnamese-American character on Netflix’s BoJack Horseman.
Before that, other white actors like Jenny Slate and Kristen Bell announced that they’d be exiting their voice roles as biracial characters on Big Mouth and Central Park, respectively. Additionally, Mike Henry, who voiced Cleveland Brown on Family Guy since 1999, stepped down from his role on Friday.
Now, folks in Hollywood have realised how so wrong it is for white people to voice roles of black characters, fans are hoping that someone will contact Kerry, who is an absolutely amazing actress, to voice a black character.
