Katy Perry Pulls Controversial ‘Blackface’ Shoes From Retailers

Katy Perry’s fashion came under fire yesterday after people noticed that one of the shoe styles seems to portray racist imagery–blackface. The shoes were immediately pulled from a number of retailers including Dillards and Walmart.

Billboard adds that both the “Rue Face Slip On Loafers” and “Ora Face Block Heel Sandal” are designed with large, blue eyes and red lips against a beige or black background. And it was the black style that got many people talking because it bore the resemblance to classic blackface makeup.

The shoes were also taken down from the fashion line’s website.
