Just In: Tambuwal Re-elected Sokoto Governor

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Aminu Tambuwal as winner of the governorship election in Sokoto State.

Fatimah Mukhtar, returning officer for the election, said Tambuwal, who contested under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled a total of 512,002 votes to beat Aliyu Ahmed of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who garnered 511,660 votes – leaving a winning margin of 342 votes.

So far, winners have been declared in two of the five states where supplementary election took place on Saturday, with the APC and PDP taking a state each.

In Plateau, Simon Lalong, the incumbent governor, defeated Jeremiah Useni, his PDP rival, to secure his second term.

Meanwhile, Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party has won the rerun poll in Bauchi state.

INEC is set to announce the final result any moment now as results of Benue and Kano are trickling in.
