Mali are into the final of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations after beating Nigeria’s Flying Eagles 4-3 via penalties.
The keenly contested game ended 1-1 in regulation time, as Nigeria’s Paschal Onyekachi Durugbor struck in the 86th minute to cancel out Mamadou Traore’s 78th minute opener for Mali.
But the Malians proved more adept from the lottery of penalties as they prevailed 4-3 to condemn the Flying Eagles to the third and fourth place playoff.
Nigeria will on Saturday play the bronze medal match with the loser of the second semi-final clash between South Africa & Senegal.
For Mali, it’s their first U20 AFCON final since the new format was introduced by CAF.
All four countries have qualified for the U20 World Cup beginning May 15 in Poland.
