Jhene Aiko is spilling the details on how her relationship with Big Sean has evolved, how they met, their first unofficial date, and more.
Speaking on BBC Radio’s 1Xtra Breakfast Show With Dotty, the singer gave the timeline of their relationship back from 2013, when they worked together on Beware featuring Lil Wayne.
“He wanted to take me out on a date. I had a boyfriend, but I still went…just as a friend,” she recalls. “I had never been courtside to a game and he’s cool. I told my boyfriend ‘I’m gonna go to this game,” she said.
The singer continued, revealing that she ended her relationship with her boyfriend after discovering he was married. She later reconnected with Big Sean years later, after her marriage to Nigerian producer Dot Da Genius failed.
Speaking about her daughter, 9-year-old Namiko, and how motherhood has affected her, she said, “You know, it was a blessing. She really gave me the drive and the purpose to be like, ‘OK, you really have to get something done. At one point, I was like, ‘I can only do one.’ It was very hard to do both. Very stressful. I was like, ‘You know what? I’m just gonna go with it; quit this job and just go out on a whim and see if this music can be what supports us, ya know. And it turned out good.”
