Irate Youths Shut Down Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway after Another ‘Killing’ by SARS

Angry youth on Sunday shut down the Onipetesi axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in Lagos over the killing of a yet to be identified man by operatives of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS).

A Twitter user, who posted a video about the incident, said the man had gone to watch football when he was hit by a stray bullet from the police unit.

“They came to arrest a guy that had dreadlocks and then shot sporadically after arresting the guy with dreads,” he tweeted.

“The guy was just taken to the general hospital Ikeja, new just came back that he is dead.”

After the news of the victim’s death broke, angry youth took to the streets in protest, blocking the road and setting objects ablaze.

Many travellers were stranded on both lanes of the busy road as at Sunday night.

SARS has been accused of indiscriminate killings on different occasions, leading to its overhaul late last year.
