The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reminded political parties to submit their list of candidates for the 2019 general elections, as it will not extend the deadline for submission.
This was made known by the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, who told pressmen on Friday that the commission had scheduled the submission of candidates’ names for the Presidential and National Assembly between Oct. 10 and Oct. 18, and deadline for the Governorship and State Assemblies election for Nov. 2.
“The Commission is following its timetable and schedule of activities for 2019 general elections. No extension of deadline for submission,” he said, via Daily Post. Adding that at the moment, “over 80 political parties made it but I am still waiting for the precise number.”
Also, a staff of the commission who spoke under anonymity said that the deadline of the issuance of tallies to political parties ended Thursday night. However, that many officials of various political parties rushed into the commission for last-minute processing of their forms, causing a chaotic environment that affected the workers.
