George Clooney Set to Produce Docuseries on Ohio State University Abuse Scandal
George Clooney is working on his latest project; a docuseries on the scandalous decades-long abuse in the athletic department of Ohio State University.
Teaming up with Sports Illustrated Studios and 101 Studios along with his own Smokehouse Pictures, the actor cum producer/director will produce the project based on an article by Jon Wertheim.
In a Sports Illustrated October 2020 story by Wertheim, he included an account from former Ohio State wrestler (and UFC champion) Mark Coleman about former Ohio State sports doctor, Richard Strauss’ alleged sexual abuse and university officials’ lack of response.
Coleman alleged that Strauss was involved in sexual abuse and administration of steroids to athletes.
He also alleged that Rep. Jim Jordan, then an Ohio State assistant wrestling coach and now a U.S. congressman, knowingly ignored Strauss’ abuse.
Richard Strauss remained a tenured professor with Ohio state University and also operated a private clinic near the University campus after he was quietly let go by the school He committed suicide in 2005.
Clooney and Wertheim will executive produce the Ohio State docuseries with Jamie Salter, Corey Salter and Marc Rosen of Sports Illustrated Studios and David Glasser, Ron Burkle and Bob Yari of 101 Studios.
