The Imo State House of Assembly has impeached the Deputy Governor, Mr Eze Madumere in continuation of the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Madumere was impeached on Monday by 19 out of the 27 member-assembly in what the Speaker of the House, Acho Ihim, said was as a result of the outcome of a report of a 7-man panel, constituted by the Chief Judge of the state to investigate allegations of gross misconduct.
Some of the allegations levelled against him include his absence without reasons for a period of three months and a failure to perform constitutional duties like attending state executive and state security council meetings.
Others are his alleged failure to attend meetings with the governor and other government functionaries as well as an alleged concealment of felonious acts in the United States.
Following his impeachment, Governor Rochas Okorocha has nominated Mr Callistus Ekenze, who was until today the Head of Service in the state, for the position of deputy governor.
Madumere had been at loggerheads with Okorocha over the governor’s purported succession plan in which he’s backing his son in-law, Uche Nwosu, to replace him at Douglas House.
He’d earlier dismissed an impeachment notice served him by 13 members of the House loyal to Governor Okorocha as a ‘dirty trick’.
