IGP Orders the Immediate Arrest of Killers of Catholic Priest

Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police (IGP), has called for the immediate arrest of the killers of Rev Fr. David Tanko, a catholic priest in Taraba State.

In a statement hours after the incident occurred, the police boss ordered that special attention be given to the security of worship centres in the country.

Rev Fr. Tanko was burnt alive in Taraba state on Thursday while he travelled to Kofai Amadu village to attend a peace summit.

Frank Mba, force public relations officer, quoted the police IG as directing the state commissioner of police to fish out Tanko’s killers.

“The IGP condoles the Catholic Family in Nigeria over the unfortunate incident,” Mba said in a statement.

“He also expresses deep concerns over the recent incidents of attacks on clergymen in some parts of the country and has directed Commissioners of Police in all the States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to henceforth pay special attention to the clergy and increase security around worship centres nationwide.

“The IGP has further directed the DIG in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) to provide additional forensic and other investigative assets to the Taraba State Command to aid investigations into the incident.”
