Nigeria striker Jude Odion Ighalo featured for his new Chinese club, Shangai Shenhua as they suffered 4-0 home defeat in the hand of defending Champions Shanghai SIPG on Friday.
Ighalo joined Shanghai Shenhua from relegated Changchun Yatai where he scored 21 goals to finish as last season’s second highest scorer in the Chinese Super League.
The 29-year-old was handed a starting berth by Coach Quique Sanchez Flores and was tormenting the back line of visitors before former Inter Milan midfielder Freddy Guarin put SIPG ahead from nowhere on the stroke of half-time.
The second half resumed with Shenhua desperate for an equaliser but it was Wenjun Lue who doubled the lead of SIPG in the 65th minutes.
The Champions added the third through Brazilian international and former Chelsea midfielder Oscar in the 79th minutes shortly after Shenhua‘s Di Gao was shown a red card.
Odil Akhemedov completed the rout Shenhua in the 88th minutes with the fourth goal of the game.
Ighalo will be hoping to open his account for his new club when they take on Hebei CFFC on Sunday.
